The Trail

We run on a private trail in Wolcott, 10 miles west of Beaver Creek. The sleds will take you through glades of Aspen and Pine trees. We often see wildlife including fox, coyote, deer and elk.

Having a private trail has its advantages. Dogsledding is the only activity that runs at the ranch in the winter.

Tour Facts

  • Two tours daily, a morning and afternoon.
  • Two guests per sled.
  • A driver or "musher" stands behind you and controls the team and sled.
  • A team of huskies pull the sled.
  • Our halfway break gives guests a chance to take some pictures and have some homemade pumpkin bread and hot cocoa.
  • Our rides are exciting as the dogs run several parts of the trail and we go up and down a mountain. Most dog sled companies use a flatter trail so the dogs just go at a fast walk through the entire trip.
  • We provide warm wool blankets and pillows.
  • We run six sleds at a time. With up to sixty dogs on the trail, you are in for a sight to behold and photograph.
  • We run a five mile, one and one-half hour ride.
  • Please, no pregnant women.
  • Kids must be at least 4 years old.
  • There is a 400 pound weight limit per sled.

If you want the sled to yourself then it is $450.00. There are no single rates during holidays: Christmas and New Years Weeks, Martin Luther King weekend, Presidents weekend.

Reservations require a valid email address. Invoices and payment instructions will be sent via email. We do not accept credit cards through email, phone calls or at the trail. All reservations are paid for through an invoice.

The cancellation policy is 48 hours for 1-2 sleds and 72 hours for 3 sleds or more. This means you need to cancel, change the number of people going out or make changes in the date/time you are scheduled before the 48-72 hours of the date of the reservation. There are no refunds if cancelled within this time.

DUE TO SOCIAL DISTANCING WE WILL NOT BE RUNNING DOOR TO DOOR SHUTTLES.

We meet twice a day at a parking area near the trail. Departure times from the parking area run at 9:00am and 12:30. You will be sent directions via email. This parking area is 15 miles west of Vail and 10 miles west of the town of Avon. You will not want to follow any GPS or Map Apps to Mountain Musher. They have our address wrong and you will end up 15 miles in the wrong direction. There will be no refunds due to missing the shuttle to the trail. Please review our directions before setting out!

We will be running two 15 passenger vans from the parking area to the trail, 6 people per van plus driver. We are asking every person in the van to wear a face covering (mask or neck gator) and to keep your gloves on and to not bring food or drinks.
