The Trail

We run on a private trail that starts at Cordillera and goes onto the 10,000 acre Diamond Star Ranch. We have long open vistas at the start where you can see the entire Vail Valley all the way to the Glenwood Canyon. After we go over to Diamond Star we go through glades of Aspen and often see wildlife, both deer and elk.

Having a private trail has its advantages as we pretty much have the trail to ourselves. Our competitors in contrast are also snowmobile companies that use the same trails for dog sledding and snowmobile tours. What's the difference? Snowmobiles tear up the trails leaving them with a bumpy washboard finish where dogsled trails are smooth for a more comfortable ride. The noise and smell of snowmobiles really take away from the natural beauty found on our tours.

Imagine the sound of the dogs feet hitting the snow and snow crunching under the runners. Come enjoy the quiet solitude of nature and all it splendor found on a Mountain Musher ride.

Tour Facts

  • Two tours daily, a morning and afternoon.
  • We provide transportation to and from the trail.
  • Two guests per sled.
  • A driver or "musher" stands behind you and controls the team and sled.
  • Twelve huskies pull the sled which is more than what other companies use.
  • Our halfway break gives guests a chance to take some pictures and refuel with a hot drink and snack.
  • Our rides are exciting as the dogs run several parts of the trail and we go up and down a mountain. Most dog sled companies use a flatter trail so the dogs just go at a fast walk through the entire trip.
  • Try mushing! After our half way break you can try mushing or driving a team.
  • We provide warm wool blankets and pillows.
  • We run five sleds at a time. With up to sixty dogs on the trail, you are in for a sight to behold and photograph.
